Have a great day! We will have tables to rent from July onwards. We don’t have an ATM on site yet, so please bring plenty of ones and fives for a float to to be self sufficient.

WHAT’S ELIGIBLE FOR THE FLEA MARKET

The Georgetown Market Place opens on Saturday, June 5, 2010 at 10 a.m. It will feature a wide variety of locally produced fruits, vegetables, meat, dairy, seafood, baked goods, and artisan food products sold directly to the public by the people who produced it. The Farmers Market will be open every Saturday from 10 a.m.-3 p.m., June 5th through September 26th in 2010.

Georgetown is the epicenter of the largest grocery store desert in King County, meaning there are precious few grocers per resident in Georgetown, and its surrounding neighborhoods, including Beacon Hill, South Park and Delridge. The Farmers Market at Georgetown Market Place aims to help correct this by providing the freshest, tastiest and most nutritious food available direct from the producers. Because most of the fresh produce that will be available at the Farmers Market was harvested within 24 hours of sale, it will last much long, taste better and be more nutrient rich than produce found at grocery stores that may have been harvested as much as 1-3 weeks before sale. This means a head of lettuce from the Farmers Market will likely still be fresher in your fridge a week after purchase, when the next market day comes along, than a head of lettuce from a grocery store will be the day you buy it. The result is not only better quality, but that you will actually save money, because your produce will last longer, meaning you will waste less of it.

While Georgetown is already a uniquely colorful neighborhood, full of artists, artisans, and just plain characters, we look forward to adding more color — the color of fresh, local food. Stay tuned to this blog for more information about opening day activities, cooking demonstrations, market vendors and more, as opening day approaches. And then count on this blog for ongoing updates on your Farmers Market at Georgetown Market Place once the market opens in June.
